SALISBURY has been ranked one of the best craft beer cities in the whole country, new research claims.

There has been a net addition of nearly 1.5k new breweries between 2001 and 2021 in the UK with microbreweries growing in popularity.

Furthermore, a study by Brewhouse and Kitchen found that 65 per cent of people quizzed now prefer craft beers more than the mainstream beers.

In light of this, holiday company Independent Cottages analysed cities across the UK to find which have the best craft beer scenes.

The research considered the number of independent breweries (per capita), the number of awards won by each city's independent breweries in 2023 and the number of pubs and drinking establishments in craft beer searches on TripAdvisor (per capita).Salisbury Journal: Owner Jacob Price with regular Hamish Ferguson celebrating Sips' second birthday in April.Owner Jacob Price with regular Hamish Ferguson celebrating Sips' second birthday in April. Sarah Hughes, director of Dark Revolution Brewery in Old Sarum, said: "The craft beer scene in Salisbury is certainly a lot better than it used to be.

"Dark Revolution brewery is an innovative and well renowned brewery, supplying not just customers and pubs nationally but also local pubs and bars like The Village, The Coach and Horses, Sips, The Winchester Gate to name just a few."

The brewery will be holding its first beer festival in July 2025 where some of the world's best breweries will be showcased, attracting people from far and wide to Salisbury.

"We're determined to put Salisbury even more so on the craft beer map," added Sarah.

Salisbury secured the fourth place thanks to its local breweries and independent pubs championing real ales, falling just short of Bath, Canterbury and Newcastle which took the top spot.
