DOMINIC Solanke labelled his Micky Cave/Daily Echo AFC Bournemouth player of the year win as “huge”, stating “winning those awards, it always means something to you.”

Daily Echo readers voted talismanic forward Solanke as their player of the season, the striker plundering 21 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea man took home 30.71 per cent of the nearly 1500 votes submitted in this year’s edition of the award.

Micky Cave’s sister, Sue Chalker, presented Solanke with the trophy, alongside her son and Cave's nephew, Kieran Chalker.

After being presented the award, Solanke told the Daily Echo: “Huge.

“Winning those awards, it always means something to you.

“Especially when it's been such a tough season.

“But it's been a great season as well, so it's nice to see those rewards at the end.

“Like I mentioned, it's always nice to get those awards, especially when you've had a great season.

“There's a lot of players throughout the years that have done really well in the team.

“So, I'm happy to win it this time.”

LONG READ| How has VAR impacted Cherries this season?

As Cherries secured their biggest points return in a single Premier League campaign, Solanke made history of his own, beating Josh King’s record to become the highest goalscoring Cherry in a single Premier League season with 19 goals.

Reflecting on the season as a whole, Solanke continued: “I think it's been really good, the team and individually as well.

“We had a bit of a slow start, but from then, we've been great.

“A lot of big wins, memorable wins as well.

“And then obviously on a personal level - to hopefully get that 20th goal at the weekend, that would be nice.

“But to be scoring that regular in the Premier League is something I've always wanted to do.”

But how would Solanke celebrate goal number 20 in the Premier League?

The striker has become a viral sensation with his anime-inspired celebrations this season, but Solanke is yet to fully plan the routine for his next goal.

Asked if he had anything up his sleeve, Solanke replied: "Not yet.

“Actually, I've been having a think, but I haven't fully decided.

“So, hopefully I can think of a good one before the weekend.”

Asked if a call up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad would be the cherry on top of a fantastic season, Solanke replied: “It would be a dream. Everyone wants to play for their country.

“Everyone wants to play in these big tournaments.

“Obviously if I get an opportunity, it will be great.”
