Major Paul Read RA (retd), 51 Paul Read, 51, of Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire, passed away suddenly on August 17th, 2016 while working in Saudi Arabia. The funeral service will be held at 12:45 PM on September 23rd , 2016 at The Royal Garrison Church of St Alban with St Barbara. Garrison Padre Darren Middleton of 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery will be officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral at Salisbury Crematorium at 2:30 PM. Funeral arrangements are being handled by James Benedict Funeral Services. Paul was born in Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire on May 4th, 1965. He attended Farnsfield Church of England School, Ternhill Infants School, Market Drayton County Primary School, St Georges Primary School, Arthur Mellows Village College, and Treviglas Comprehensive School. Paul was married to Donna Read (Chapman) on February 22nd , 1986; they were married for 30 years. Paul joined the British Army at the age of 16 rising through the ranks to Warrant Officer Class One when he received the Queen’s Commission and promoted to the rank of Captain to serve in the Royal Regiment of Artillery. Paul left service in 2013 in the rank of Major after 32 years’ service. Paul served in the UK, Germany, Kenya, Canada, and saw operational service in Belize, Iraq, Bosnia and Kosovo. As a training and development consultant Paul worked on projects in the UK, Dubai, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia. He enjoyed reading, going to the cinema, following Chelsea Football Club, watching football and rugby and spending every spare moment enjoying the company of his family and friends. Paul is survived by his wife Donna, two children, Jamie-Lee and Glyn; his two grandchildren Lennon and Kaitlin; his parents, Ian and Josephine Read; his brother, Ian Read, his sister, Tracey Read.
