I LOVE the beginning of a new year.

But if you have stepped into 2015 feeling just a little bit jaded then you can jolly yourselves up with the prospect of four months of political campaigning.

Yes, a week into the new year the starting gun has been fired to woo voters ahead of the general election.

Whoopeee!

So, because I am a very kindly sort I have made things simple for anyone wanting a breather from the political maelstrom that is brewing and here is my tick list of policies from the four main parties.

I don’t even care that you may think it is pointless, given that a forest pony wearing a blue rosette would still get more votes than anyone one from any other political party in this region. Bah.

Anyway here we go.

Labour Increase the minimum wage.

Bring back the 10p tax rate for low earners.

Scrap the bedroom tax.

Introduce a mansion tax on properties worth more than £2m.

Bring back the bankers’ bonus tax.

Introduce 50p tax rate for the very wealthiest.

Invest at least £2.5bn in the NHS.

UKIP Scrapping the Human Rights Act.

Boot camps for young offenders.

Scrap the Crown Prosecution Service and return to local police prosecutions.

Increase defence spending by 40 per cent.

Smoking rooms in pubs.

No benefits for anyone who has not lived in the UK for five years.

Oppose wind farms.

Conservative Commitment to hold an EU referendum.

Withdrawal from the Court of Human Rights.

Raise the tax free allowance to £12,500 by 2020.

Raise the threshold for the 40p income tax from £41,900 to £50,000 by the end of a five year Tory term.

Freeze working-age benefits.

Harsh cuts of £25bn to public services.

Liberal Democrat Increase the income tax threshold from £10,000 to £12,500 a year.

Promote apprenticeships and give financial support to new businesses.

Protect the science budget.

Cut business tax.

Support wind farms and green energy schemes.

Protect education from cuts.

One of my new year’s resolutions is to avoid the campaign altogether.

I’m not doing too well at that so far.
