Bentley has confirmed the name of its forthcoming Range Rover rival, the “Bentayga”. Its name is inspired by Roque Bentayga which is a famous rock formation on Gran Canaria.
As the name is inspired by “the natural world”, the manufacturer's message is that the vehicle excels in tough terrain. It claims it “combines pinnacle luxury and performance”.
The Bentley Bentayga will be revealed late in 2015 and on sale from 2016. The manufacture hopes to take a meaningful slice of the lucrative sports utility market.
Details are sketchy, but stylistically it is likely to be an evolution of the EXP 9 F Concept (pictured). Prototypes have striking camouflage coverings to conceal “their true form”. Bentley says its “revolutionary vehicle warrants a revolutionary approach to camouflage”.
Rumours suggest that engine options include a V8, W12 and Hybrid that travels 30 miles on battery power alone. This might help satisfy future zero-emission car laws in cities. In contrast, it has been suggested that the most potent version is capable of 200mph.
