Motoring technology is fantastic. We have state of the art AM radios, transparent windscreens, and magnificent cup holders. These technological marvels make life comfortable, but sometimes technology goes too far. So, would you trust a 'self driving' car?

We're already familiar with some degree of automation. We use automatic transmission, self illuminating headlights, and internal temperature regulation. However, some systems go much further. Adaptive cruise control, for example, maintains the distance to other vehicles by regulating acceleration and braking. Some models actually perform emergency stops – automatically.

Manufacturers are now designing vehicles which virtually eliminate traditional driving. This is extraordinary technology, but what about malfunctions? Every machine eventually breaks and this may cause accidents. Imagine explaining the incident. 'My car crashed itself, officer - I was reading the newspaper.' So, self driving cars. This motoring blogger remains unconvinced.
