The Porsche Boxster makes my head spin like socks in a tumble dryer. One one hand, I have always appreciated its composed handling, fashionable badge, and fun-focussed nature – but for some reason I have never truly fallen for this two-door convertible. It tends to leave me cold. But hang on...there is a new version in town. This looks much shaper thanks to the shorter overhangs, widened track, aggressive lines, and larger wheels. The interior stirs my soul too; which until now has remained calmer than a pond. Check-out the new electric roof, the larger cabin, and the stylish central console. This has been inherited from the Carrera GT – and makes the new Boxster feel more complete than its predecessor.

This beast is listed in two specifications; Boxster and Boxster S. Both are available with six-speed manual or PDK transmission. The latter enables thrill seekers to cruise in auto-mode, or select cogs manually 'without' a foot operated clutch. The Boxster has a 2.7-litre flat-six engine that - despite the drop in displacement compared to its predecessor - produces 265bhp. That is 10bhp more than the old version. The result is 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds. In contrast, the Boxster S has a 3.4-litre 315bhp power plant. This produces 5bhp more than its elderly sibling, and hits 62mph in 5.0 seconds. That is fast. Thank goodness for the solid chassis, pin-sharp steering, and mighty brakes. Oh, I actually like the new Porsche Boxster.
