I have been a couple of times to the Salisbury Christmas Market, now in it second week and yes I have enjoyed the experience, I also noted how busy it was which really pleased me. I have read in the journal so many people all saying the same thing it could have been so much better, which is very true, but as my daughter pointed out, this is the first time we have had one and hopefully the powers that be will learn a lot from and listen to the comments made by people.

There is no doubt that it has had a positive effect on the market place and drawn people in, but it was quite interesting to talk to some off the shop keepers on late night opening, as it seems although there was a lot of people about they where not actually going into the shops as much as hoped for.

The answer must surely be down to the internet and the fantastic deals they offer, many now doing free delivery to your door, browsing from the warmth of your home with no crowds to contend with let alone parking charges, I for one do it.

So the questions has got to be how do we make people want to shop in the high street, someone out there has got to be brave and sell only on the high street, with a product that people will really want, maybe that is one for Dragons den to be thinking about.

I think Salisbury market could go onto great things if they take a little more time looking at say the Christmas markets in Europe, inject some money into more decoratating, creating more Christmas magic, and maybe invite some of the French or Italian markets to join ours introducing more of a cross section of cultures, but for now I will say well done Salisbury and looking forward to the next one.
