The snow that hit us all hard on Friday caused most people a lot of problems, as for myself I live on a farm outside Salisbury with small country lanes and during winter it can prove to be very dangerous. This year my granddaughter is in Southampton General hospital after undergoing major surgery and I have been going everyday to be with her, so when I saw all the snow my heart sunk.

My journey on the Friday morning took me four hours to get to the hospital, it normally takes me an hour and a quater, I saw many vehicles slide into each other, it was a nerve shattering drive. The main thing I noticed was that around Salisbury I did see snow ploughs going out and gritters seemed to be everywhere. When I got to Southampton the route to the hospital was a nightmare, I was passing ambulances that where getting stuck, buses sliding into cars and no evidence of gritters or ploughs at all, there was a marked difference. My return journey was similar as I crossed the boarder into Wiltshire the conditions of the roads improved immediately and I would say each day during this period of sub zero temperatures the roads I have been using many of them very small have been well gritted.

It is nice to be able to be positive about the council service for a change and to thank them for a job well done and the guys that get up at all hours to turn ot to keep us moving, thank you very much.
