Today I sat looking at a photograph of my grandson in the Salisbury Journal, he is a goalkeeper for Sarum Youth under thirteens, he is in fact their youngest player. I was filled with pride to see his smiling face looking back at me, and he was so excited when he came in from school to see himself in the paper. His team had got through to the league finals and he got to play his finals match at the Salisbury ground, he is only nine so it has been an amazing experience for him. I really believe that these type of achievements give so much incentive to children and teach them that hard work and commitment can pay good results.

I realised that we in Salisbury have so much we can all be proud of. My granddaughter had to spend a week in Salisbury hospital in March and it was such a positive experience, unlike the stay she had in Southampton which left her traumatised. The staff and Doctors showed true compassion and empathy with my granddaughter, they spent time considering her needs and the ward itself is quiet, calm, clean and attractive. We did refuse to be transferred back to Southampton at which point they said ok we will look after you and they did look after her. It is very nice to be able to say you have a good hospital one to be proud of, I think of the grandure of the Catherderal and the beauty of the city, the history of Stonehenge we all have so much to be proud of.

I think my only concern about our beautiful city is that the council do not listen enough to the people who live, work and trade here, we are so much more than a tourist attraction, our hearts and souls are here.
