Reading yesterday’s paper an article caught my attention, it suggested we need to all come together to survive the current credit crisis as people did during and just after the war, it went on to discuss the values that people had then, I thought to myself, yes that sounds great, but I think first we would have to teach a lot of people about values, family values, work ethics and social values a lot of these have been eroded over the years.

I think I am not alone in saying it would be nice to see families doing family things on a Sunday instead of Mum going shopping, Dad catching up on the footie and the kids glued to the Xbox or the Wii. It would be great to bring back the good old Sunday lunch tradition, families all got together, ate together, talked together and no TV. I can hear the shrieks of horror now from kids who have withdrawal symptoms if the tele goes off.

There are also a lot of people struggling to even afford to buy a Sunday roast. A few months ago you could pick up a good sized free range chicken for about £5-£6 now it would cost you between £8-£9 that’s a lot of money if you are unemployed or on short time. Looking at the ads the supermarkets put out, there are some good deals around but you would need to be able to shop at say three, Lidl’s have veg on offer ,Tesco have other good offers and Morrison’s other offers but doing this would cost a fortune in fuel let alone time.

I am putting together a plan that my friends and I each shop in one supermarket, we buy the selected offers and enough for each other then we get together over a coffee and swap offers, my husband suggested we need a database to organize this, err I don’t think so, we want to save time and money not find another way to sit in front of a monitor for hours.

I will update you if my plan works or it could be that I end up eating cauliflower cheese for the next fortnight.
