During this week I have been faced with many headlines which made me think I would be sat writing for a full week, next day there would be another article which then gave you the full facts and often the story did not seem the same at all.

One story though which I feel is in many cases down to misunderstanding is that of the starvation of patients within our hospitals.

I work for the NHS and I work with some of the best Nurses you could ever hope to have look after you, but that said I was admitted to our local hospital in December and could not wait to get home this was not down to the nursing staff. It is often not understood that there may only be a Sister, a staff nurse and one other nurse on the ward all the other staff are support workers and they can make such a difference to your stay, some are wonderful and then there are other who do the job just for the pay cheque.

It is the support staff who do the feeding and most of the manual work on a ward, it is these people who feed back to the Sister if someone is not eating or needs help, it is these people who bring you the bed pan you might have been waiting an hour for, the wards could not work without them and most do a wonderful job, it is those few who get the others a bad name. I do believe it is time old fashioned Matrons came back to do the ward inspections that kept everyone on there toes.My position within the NHS is that of support worker for the urgent care unit based in the community.
