Last Saturday my husband and I went into Salisbury, we had a plan, he had to have his flu jab then we would do some shopping finishing of with a nice lunch.
It was fashion week so it was quite busy and had a very nice vibe about it, the shops seemed busy too, the sad event was paying for the parking. We do not mind paying for parking but £4.20 for three hours is a big turn off.
We found by the time we had done our little jobs we had 30 minutes left on our ticket, for us to stay we would have to move the car as we were in the short stay which only allows three hours, then having to pay again. We decided we would have to eat at a pub on the way home, this is such a shame as it is taking business out of the city, yet this week I heard the council have said they will not reduce the car parking fees or offer any free parking.
I was delighted to hear about the Christmas Market coming to Salisbury and really want to go, it sounds wonderful over fifty Christmas chalets, yet I am left wondering can I really afford to go and support the city.
A few people have suggested the park and ride but when you have your car you can pop backwards and forwards putting your shopping in. I cannot carry loads of bags, which when Christmas shopping most of us do have lots of bags, also the time factor, I am always in a hurry, I could not afford that extra time waiting at a bus stop.
I will go to the market, but it will be for two hours, I feel very sorry for the shop keepers who are trying to keep there business going when they have a council who won’t help them.
