MINISTRY of Defence scientists have been recognised for their work alongside the military in conflict zones around the world.

Staff from the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), received Operational Service Medals from Brigadier Richard Stanford of NATO Allied Rapid Reaction Corps HQ and Dstl chief executive Jonathan Lyle in a ceremony attended by their friends and relatives.

Some of the 25 recipients deployed for short periods to conduct trials, but most deployed on long-term appointments in Afghanistan, Iraq and Bahrain.

Mr Lyle thanked the Dstl staff for the impact they have had on military operations.
