BUSINESSES are being asked to sign up to the Salisbury Purple Flag Charter to promote excellence in the city’s night time economy.

Salisbury was awarded Purple Flag status, denoting the city as a safe, clean and entertaining place to be in the evening, in October last year.

And a new charter has been set up as a free way of supporting the scheme, which aims to bridge the gap between the daytime and night time economy of the city.

A number of businesses have already signed up to the charter, including Salisbury City Football Club, The Chapel Nightclub, The Cathedral Hotel, City Hall, Chas H. Baker, and Salisbury Street Pastors.

Mike Davies, of Coffeemocha, was the first to sign up to the charter and has been a member of the steering group since it began. He recently welcomed American tourists who were visiting the city on the basis it had received the Purple Flag status.

Lindsey Brown, from City Centre Management (CCM), said: “The Purple Flag scheme is a mechanism to bring together those with an interest in the city and a way to identify and address issues raised by the businesses affected.

“The steering group wants to make changes that directly benefit our economy and that is why Salisbury CCM is an active member of the steering group.”

The steering group’s first assessment of the city took place almost a year ago and its next is planned for Saturday.
