Workforce training to be provided
THE Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Serco Vocational Training will provide skills training to the area’s workforce in order to aid business growth.
Having acquired European funding for the project, the LEP and Serco have identified priority areas in which to improve the skill level of Swindon and Wiltshire’s workforce.
These include manufacturing and advanced engineering, business and financial services, tourism, land-based industries, environmental technologies and life sciences.
Skills development is a key objective for the LEP and the focus will now be on engaging with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across Swindon and Wiltshire in order to address their skills needs and deliver the training.
Commissioned by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA), the contract will run until July 2015.
Isobel Brown, director of partnership and programmes at the LEP, said: “The Swindon & Wiltshire LEP is very excited by our new partnership with Serco Vocational Training.
“We have identified key sectors that will benefit from skills training and look forward to seeing the positive effects that this programme has on business growth in the area.”
Lesley Watson, head of apprenticeships, Serco said: “This is the first time that Local Enterprise Partnerships have played a critical role in determining the effective use of European funding at a local level.
“We will be closely working with the LEP and local businesses to meet workforce development needs across the region and will be delivering a variety of different training courses using a range of subcontractors.
“By working in partnership with a range of diverse organisations, we strongly believe that we will be able to meet the LEP’s priorities, developing the workforce skills that businesses need to help them grow.”
