Search for top business brains
THE hunt is on to find Wiltshire’s top young business brain as the Enterprising Wiltshire Awards 2014 is launched.
Wiltshire Business Support Service (WBSS) is searching for a Wiltshire-based entrepreneur aged 16 to 24 years to be recognised as the Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Chris Simpson, senior business manager at WBSS, said: “We’ve a host of young business talent in Wiltshire and this award aims to throw the spotlight on our Generation Z entrepreneurs, who are just beginning to make their presence felt.”
Young Entrepreneur of the Year is one of six award categories – online business, independent retailer, exporter, young entrepreneur, manufacturer and start-up – and one of the six will be named Business of the Year.
The awards, backed by Wiltshire Council and run by WBSS, are in their second year. The winners each receive a cash prize of £1,500 provided by the council. The Business of the Year will receive an additional £500 and a package of business support, advice and networking opportunities.
The start-up business winner will be offered six months’ free desk space at one of the county’s four new enterprise centres provided by The Enterprise Network.
Last year more than 140 firms entered and finalists say it had a positive effect on their business.
Alice Henry from Salisbury’s Urge Cycles, the 2013 winner of the South Wiltshire Innovative Business Award, said: “Winning has been great for our company. It not only built our confidence as a new business and gave us some free advertising, but also allowed us to gain recognition for our services across the county.”
Businesses have until January 31 to enter. Judging will take place in February with a panel of judges from Wiltshire Council’s Business & Enterprise team, the Wessex Association of Chambers of Commerce and leading representatives from Wiltshire’s professional services and entrepreneurial community.
