A BOOK shop manager from Salisbury was invited to Number 11 Downing Street to celebrate the success of small businesses.

Sarum College bookshop manager Jenny Monds was surprised and delighted when she received the invitation to a reception at the home and office of the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

The reception was held on Friday, December 6, to celebrate Small Business Saturday.

The bookshop, in the Cathedral Close, was chosen as one of 100 small businesses around the country to be featured.

The invitation was to afternoon tea at Number 11, hosted by Matthew Hancock, Minister for Business Skills and Enterprise.

β€œIt was a real boost for the 100 representatives of small businesses, and we were celebrated for our role in sustaining a healthy UK economy,”

said Ms Monds.

The event was attended by the Chancellor, George Osborne, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and President of the Board of Trade Vince Cable, and Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna.
