APPRENTICES from QinetiQ will be refurbishing Salisbury’s youth project The Unit as part of this year’s Brathay Challenge.

Brathay Trust aims to improve the life chances of children and young people by inspiring them to engage positively in their communities.

Each year the trust joins forces with the National Apprenticeship Service to host an Apprentice Challenge, giving apprentices from across the country a chance to improve their team-building, logistical, leadership and community skills.

More than 100 teams from businesses across the country have signed up for the challenge and QinetiQ has chosen to support The Unit by refurbishing their shop in Endless Street.

The apprentices, with support from Wicks Salisbury, will lay a new floor, donate new furniture and repaint the venue.

There will also be free WiFi access, a new coffee machine and affordable refreshments, aiming to create a café style space for young people to visit, find out about things and get involved in projects and events.

As part of the refurbishment a visual arts project to design a new mural for The Unit’s back wall will be launched.

For more details about this project and to get involved email unitspace@gmail.com.

The Unit will be open from Monday, March 3, on weekdays from 3pm to 6pm. To launch the “new look” Unit people are invited to visit on Friday, March 7 from 3pm to 6pm when there will be free refreshments and an acoustic set from Katie Newham between 5pm and 6pm.
