SHOPKEEPERS in Salisbury are being urged to take advantage of additional business rates relief.

Property consultancy firm Myddelton & Major says many retailers are not aware of the extra support they can get from the Government of up to £1,000 in rates relief a year.

Shops with a rateable value of less than £50,000, including shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants, may qualify for the relief, and Myddelton & Major partner Dean Speer is urging shopkeepers to check with the council if they are eligible.

He said: “This additional business rates relief was a provision in the Chancellor’s autumn statement in December.

“It has gone little noticed but represents significant and very welcome support for smaller businesses.

“We successfully let premises to businesses of all types and sizes.

“We know how hard they work to provide a quality service and make Salisbury the vibrant shopping and visitor destination that it is.

“Any extra support to help them prosper and grow is very welcome.”
