SALISBURY’S Independents’ Week is set to become an annual event after the success of this year’s campaign.
The event saw independent businesses across the city teaming up to offer discounts and promotions, with the aim of encouraging more customers to see what they offer.
The week, officially launched outside Casa Fina in High Street by Mayor of Salisbury Jo Broom, ran from June 30 to July 6.
The city was emblazoned with blue and white balloons and stickers as many businesses decorated their premises to show support for the event.
Businesses taking part included restaurants, salons, shops, pubs and other services with owners reporting an upsurge in trade.
Some used Independents’ Week as an opportunity to thank loyal customers while others had introductory offers to entice new shoppers.
Customers were able to take advantage of free parking after 3pm in Culver Street Car Park.
At a meeting this week it was agreed the week was a great success and should be repeated next year.
Organisers said the aim was for Salisbury to “buzz with happy shoppers” and this had been achieved.
Neil Prigent, owner of Jas Hair Group and one of the organisers of Independents’ Week, said: “An event such as this is really important to Salisbury.
“Not only does it promote the uniqueness and importance of our independent businesses, but it shows the way that they are able to shape the future of our city, at a time when signs are that our economy is recovering. We must remain competitive and attractive to the consumer, so that our city continues to be the vibrant place it is today.”
