A SALISBURY-based student has won a prestigious engineering competition.

Ben Weeks scooped The Year in Industry’s Contribution to the Business Award for his placement project while working for Chemring Countermeasures, at High Post, Salisbury.

Mr Weeks used his knowledge to research and design a new 3D printed funnel to help in a manufacturing process.

He will now, alongside fellow regional winner Riccardo Novaglia from Siemens, represent the south west at the National Final in London on Thursday, September 18.

Kathryn Brooks, office manager at the Engineering and Development Trust, said: “Ben gave an outstanding presentation, which not only communicated technical information clearly, but also conveyed his clear passion for problem solving and new technological advancements in 3D printing.”
