A BOARDWALK is to be built at an Amesbury beauty spot this autumn.

Bawden Contracting Services Ltd will be building the walkway on the banks of the River Avon at Lords Walk this autumn after Amesbury Town Council approved the project.

Lords Walk, pictured, an idyllic spot popular with walkers and anglers, is prone to flooding and erosion.

And following advice from Natural England and the Environment Agency, Amesbury Town Council has set funds aside to improve the route along the 18-metre stretch of riverbank.

Bawden will be using environmentally-friendly composite decking, manufactured in Germany from recycled plastic, which is supplied by Hahn Plastics Ltd.

Mark Edwards, of Bawden, said: “As a local company we are very pleased to be involved in this project, which will ensure Lords Walk can be enjoyed throughout the year. The boardwalk will provide safe access regardless of the conditions underfoot and will protect the sensitive ecosystems that exist along this beautiful stretch of the River Avon.”

The bridge will be positioned to allow the chalk stream alongside the River Avon to follow its natural course and eventually join the main river.

Part of the construction includes handrails along the length of the boardwalk and ramped access for wheelchair users and buggies.
