THREE Salisbury apprentices are plugging into a new career at energy firm SSE as engineers and electricians of the future.

They were amongst 169 youngsters to land places on SSE’s prestigious training scheme, out of thousands who applied from all over the country.

Joining SSE are Sebastian Griffiths, 18, Luke Hill, 17, and Marcus Allen, 17, all from Salisbury.

They will be training to become cable jointers, fitters or electrical installers at the company's depots in the New Forest and Yeovil. Mr Griffiths, who is training to be a cable jointer, recently left Wiltshire College where he had studied plumbing and electrical installation.

“I decided to apply for this SSE apprenticeship as it’s one of the best you can go for,” he said.

Ryan Sadler, head of learning and development at SSE, said: “SSE employs 20,000 people and recruiting talented and committed people is essential for us. By investing around £80,000 per recruit, SSE is also investing in the people who will provide, in the future, a quality service to our customers.”
