ONE of the business directors on South Wiltshire UTC’s governing body has received a prestigious award from the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor (CSA), Professor Vernon Gibson.

Peter Mallinson from Chemring Technology Solutions, at Roke Manor in Romsey, has been awarded the CSA’s coveted award for Exceptional Contribution to Defence Science and Technology. Professor Gibson said: "The awards are for new scientific breakthroughs and for discovering new ways of exploiting both military and civilian technologies.

“It makes me confident that I can report back to ministers and the government on the great work that’s being done and how this makes a difference to the defence and security of the UK.”

Peter Mallinson’s award relates to his contribution in getting research ideas quickly into the hands of the users as efficiently as possible for the Ministry of Defence via Dstl and the Centre for Defence Enterprise, both of which are also closely involved in supporting South Wiltshire UTC.

One of the key features of the UTC is the close links to experts from industry who will help bring learning to life.
