GEORGE Lawrence, who has flown Wiltshire’s Air Ambulance (WAA) for the last 13 years, has been appointed unit chief pilot for the charity’s new air ambulance.
George, who joined on October 1, will be one of four pilots who will fly the new Bell 429 helicopter, the first of its kind to be used as an air ambulance in the UK.
George will start flying the Bell 429 in November for training and testing and the new air ambulance will start operating on January 1, 2015.
And Kevin Reed, a long-serving crew member with WAA, has become head of operations.
Among Kevin’s responsibilities will be managing the air ambulance’s temporary base at Wiltshire Police headquarters in Devizes, managing the contract for the new air ambulance with Heli Charter and undertaking the search for a new home for the air ambulance.
