AWARD-winning celebrity hairstylist Phil Smith, who has a salon is Salisbury, joined forces with Cruelty Free International to run a competition in which the winner received a cruelty-free makeover.

The makeover, which was carried out by Phil himself, took place at his salon in the city.

The lucky winner was nurse Amy Bassan, from Canvey in Essex.

Phil has won numerous hair styling awards over the course of his career. He was the hairstylist at Sting’s wedding, and was inducted into the British Hairdressing Hall of Fame in 2000.

Cruelty Free International is the only global campaigning organisation whose sole mission is to bring about an end to the use of animals for cosmetics tests for products and their ingredients. It led the 20-year campaign for the Europe animal cosmetics testing ban in 2013.

In 2007, Phil’s award-winning signature haircare range ‘Phil Smith Be Gorgeous’ was launched in Sainsbury’s.

The range is certified by Cruelty Free International and carries the Leaping Bunny logo – the international guarantee against animal testing in a company’s own brand products.

He said: “We are pleased to support the work of Cruelty Free International by joining forces for this competition.

“The Leaping Bunny recognition is extremely important to us and it is testament to our brand’s key values which we are always working to improve and enhance.”
