WILSONS Solicitors have unveiled a new artwork in Salisbury to kick off celebrations to mark the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta.

The firm is sponsoring Salisbury Cathedral’s programme of events and commissioned the Magna Carta-themed artwork at Alexandra House.

Mike Parker, managing partner of Wilsons, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Salisbury Cathedral in its celebration of this remarkable document and the principles that it enshrined and inspired in England and around the world.

“In recognition of the importance and beauty of this text, we are proud to have commissioned a public and lasting reminder of it for display at Alexandra House, which, rather fittingly, is the former Salisbury Crown Court and Inland Revenue tax office.”

The Dean of Salisbury, the Very Reverend June Osborne, added: “We are grateful to Wilsons for their generous contribution to Salisbury Cathedral’s Magna Carta 800 programme of celebrations.

“Their support helped us secure the Heritage Lottery grant, which has allowed us to create a permanent new Magna Carta exhibition in the Chapter House.

“This display will live on long after the anniversary is over and will, we hope, encourage people to explore the values that the Magna Carta represents - fairness and justice – values that both the cathedral and members of the legal profession hold dear.”
