ALMOST half (45 per cent) of residents in the South West struggle to make their money stretch until pay day, according to research by TopCashback.co.uk.

A survey undertaken by the website also revealed that 43 per cent in the South West save each month with 20 per cent putting away £51 to £100.

More than a quarter admitted to occasionally overspending into their next pay cheque and 44 per cent said they splurged on pay-day treats.

When it comes to saving, around half of residents said they cut back on social life expenses, while 29 per cent cut out unnecessary shopping.

For men, the most popular pay day treat is going for a meal, whereas women prefer to buy new clothes.

The research showed that women feel guiltier about pay day splurges than men do.

Fourteen per cent of South West residents would prefer to be paid weekly rather than monthly.
