A WYLYE-based business has offered students a taste of a future career in digital marketing through a series of workshops.

Digital communications agency Giant Peach invited business studies and media students from Kingdown School in Warminster into their barn for an app development day, designed to show them that technology has opportunities for every person, every sphere of creativity and every level of capability.

It comes after deputy prime minister Nick Clegg announced that south-west businesses will receive an extra £47m from the Regional Growth Fund – designed to re-balance the economy away from London – to create jobs in the area.

Giant Peach founder, James Read said: “It’s crucial to us as an ethically-focused agency to enable young people to discover their talents.

“We were mindful that it didn’t become just another tour of an office, or an uninspiring work experience, and the students responded really positively to the opportunity to be part of a team that does things differently.

“This kind of experience is essential and rewarding, and it was clear the students felt the same. With the spiralling costs of university, our youth have difficult decisions to make - earlier than ever before.

“It’s a really tough landscape out there for those leaving further or higher education, and I believe all businesses have a responsibility to help them make an informed decision about their future and we look forward to helping more schools in the future.”
