PLUMBING students at Wiltshire College went against the clock in a competition to see who could correctly fix and plumb-in a radiator the quickest to mark World Plumbing Day.

The event last week saw apprentices and students from Wiltshire College's Salisbury and Trowbridge campuses go head to head with other colleges from across the south west.

Ronan Willcox, an apprentice with Salisbury firm SGS Heating & Elecrical, took the honours within Wiltshire College, scoring 42 points and clocking 35 minutes 10 seconds for his installation.

At Salisbury, Ryan Astley was runner-up, Travis Gellard of The Heating and Plumbing Company, Andover, took third place, and Leon Compton of Salisbury firm Drummond Heating finished fourth.

Competition judge Steve Johnson said: “It's been great to be involved in this event. It's raised awareness of our trades in this country, and it's been good for the apprentices to test their skills - they clearly enjoyed the competition.”
