A TRENDY shoe shop is urging people to donate unwanted shoes in exchange for vouchers as a charity scheme.

The Sell Your Soles event is part of the launch activities organised by the new branch of Schuh in the Old George Mall that opened for business two months ago.

Anyone with an old pair of shoes is being asked to bring them in to the store where they will be given a £10 voucher towards a new pair, while the old ones will be sold for charity or recycled, depending on their condition.

Money raised will go towards the Newlife Foundation, a charity that funds specialist equipment for disabled children.

Schuh store manager Aaron Eastwood said: “Anyone can just come in with an old pair of shoes – whatever the condition – and we will give them a £10 voucher to spend in store.

“Some of the shoes will get sold in the Newlife charity shops, other will be recycled, but either way the charity will benefit and when we’ve done this before in other stores it is always really popular.”

Shopping Centre Manager Jon Osgood said: “It’s great to see that things have been going well for Schuh so far at the Old George and this is a good way for them to give something back not only to the customers that have already shown such support, but also to a very worthwhile children’s charity.”

Newlife has been the nominated charity nationwide for Schuh for several years and so far over 20,000 pairs of shoes have been donated to other Sell Your Soles initiaitves, raising £18,000 for the cause.

The £10 voucher can be redeemed against any purchase costing £30 or more, and the vouchers can’t be combined so only one per pair of shoes can be used.

The exchange runs from tomorrow (July 31) to August 31 at the Old George Mall in Salisbury.
