THE Betsy family from Ringwood recently took the Ideal Home at Christmas exhibition at Olympia by storm with demonstrations of their Betsy Paint Mate.

The Betsy Paint Mate is the "life-saving device" for DIY enthusiasts, invented by Emma Betsy, which makes life safer for home DIY amateurs.

It is also winning over the professionals, who see it as reducing risk while painting and saving valuable time.

It cuts the risk of accidents because the user does not have to hold a paint pot in the hand. One of the most common accidents in the home is through falls from step ladders by amateur DIY enthusiasts holding a paint pot while up a ladder.

The Betsy clan took their product to the Ideal Home Christmas show recently and sold around 200.

Steeve said: “What was really interesting to us was that women really loved it. Many do their own DIY and they immediately saw the benefits.”

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents says on average three people a year die in the UK because of falls from ladders and step ladders at home. Dozens are injured, some badly.

Steeve and Emma Betsy believe their invention will cut the risk significantly.
