A Salisbury business owner has sponsored a Guide Dogs pup.

Sacha Bollhalder of Ovenu Salisbury has signed on to support Ralph, a 12-month-old golden retriever-labrador cross.

This will help him through his intensive guide dog training programme.

Young Ralph is set to replace Selsey, a black Labrador previously backed by Ovenu franchisees.

Despite showing promise, Selsey developed a hip issue which prevented her from taking on active service.

Mr Bollhalder remains committed to the charity's mission.

Presently, Ralph is navigating his early pup stage with puppy raisers before he initiates full guide dog training, aspiring to eventually assist a visually impaired individual.

His latest report suggests he's adjusting well and is commended as "sweet and charming".

Notably, he showcases skill in traversing public transport and remains assured amidst bustling settings, while his mealtime manners need minor refining.

Salisbury Journal:

Sacha Bollhalder, residing near Salisbury and manager of the enterprise from 2019, said: "Guide Dogs is a fantastic charity and I'm pleased to be able to give something back by supporting its life changing work.

"These dogs provide those with sight loss greater mobility, independence, social interaction - as well as companionship."

He believes his ongoing patronage acts as a "thank you" to his clients, whose support has facilitated his sponsorship of the endearing young dog.

Guide Dogs’ CEO Andrew Lennox expressed gratitude for all contributors, stressing the significance of sponsorships like Mr Bollhalder's.

He said: "It costs approximately £56,000 to support each guide dog from birth to retirement, and without all the contributions of our donors and the efforts of our fundraisers we would not be able to do what we do."
