Double joy for Sandra and Jan

A BUSINESS owner and her employee have won national awards.

Sandra Silk, founder of Sandra Silk Bookkeeping & Business Services of Portway Business Centre, Old Sarum, and Jan Romer-Lee have won respectively IAB Bookkeeper of the Year and IAB Payroll Professional of the Year at the UK Enterprise Support Awards.

The two women were presented with their awards at a ceremony at Kensington Roof Gardens last month.

Ms Silk set up her company in 2003, offering bookkeeping, payroll and business services to start-ups and small businesses. Since then she has expanded, recruiting Ms Romer-Lee in 2008.

Both studied and achieved distinctions under IAB (International Association of Bookkeepers) tutor Penny Randall.

Ms Silk said: “We were delighted when Jan was announced the winner of the first award, which was presented to her by the Institute of Payroll Professionals.

The Bookkeeper of the Year 2010 award came next and when the runner-up was announced and it wasn’t me, I realised we had scooped both of the awards. This is a fantastic achievement for our business.

“To be recognised nationally as the best in the business has given us a real boost, both personally and professionally. We have grown considerably, particularly over the last 12 months, and this will help us to raise our profile even further.”

Malcolm Trotter, chief executive of the IAB, said: “Sandra’s passion for what she does and her commitment to her clients absolutely shone through.

“This organisation provides us with an outstanding example of someone who is simply acting on their entrepreneurial spirit and ultimately providing a service which rivals and, in some cases, even outperforms many larger companies.”
