MACHINERY company Manitou of Verwood has opened a £1.8m business complex next to its UK headquarters on the Ebblake Industrial Estate.

The 35,000 sq ft complex has been built for local businesses wanting to develop and expand.

French company Manitou, which employs 2,000 people in more than 120 countries and has a £100m turnover, has been trading in Verwood for 29 years.

Its all-terrain machinery is used in construction, farming and industry.

Gordon Himsworth, a director of French parent company Manitou BF and a director of Manitou UK, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor of Verwood Alec Nicholls. Cllr Nicholls, said: "What Manitou is doing here in Verwood is absolutely fantastic.

"They aren't just a company in Verwood, they are part of Verwood and that's very important."

The complex comprises three units, offering a range of factory, office and warehouse space, with disabled access and 100 parking spaces.

Paul Streatfield, finance director at Manitou, said: "This complex is good news for local businesses seeking affordable but high-quality premises.

"It's all about giving a bit back to local businesses looking to grow."
