The normal body temperature is 37.0 degrees celsius.
However, the body temperature measured on an individual will vary for example according to the time of day or the part of the body where the temperature is measured.
The body temperature is lower in the morning, due to the rest the body received and higher at night after a day of muscular activity and after eating.
Body temperature may be abnormal due to fever (high temperature) or hypothermia (low temperature).
Fever (also called pyrexia) is a rise above the normal level but is not usually considered significant until it is one degree centigrade higher than normal.
Fever is not an illness, but, rather, a symptom (or indicator) that something is not right within the body.
A fever does not tell you what disorder is causing it or how serious it might be.
The Patient UK website link below gives some advice on what do to if a child has a fever.
If ever you are unsure how to respond to a fever ask your doctor.
