PUPILS at Bemerton St John School raised £233 for the charity Canine Partners by dressing in purple and holding a cake sale.

The children in Swallows class had been learning about caring for others and invited the charity to come and visit.

During the visit they heard how Canine Partner Kerly helps his disabled owner around the house and enjoyed a demonstration of him emptying the washing machine, retreiving items from cupboards, picking up dropped objects and raising help by pushing an alarm button.

The class were delighted to be able to adopt a puppy called Barney with the money raised and are looking forward to seeing him through his training.
