St Martin's children win scooter pod
STUDENTS at a primary school in Salisbury who scoot to school can now park their scooter in a special storage pod after winning one in a competition.
The pupils at St Martin’s School won the pod after impressing judges with their design of a poster promoting the golden rules of safe scooting.
Headteacher Vanessa Pile said: “I’m delighted we have won the pod and I just know the children will love it.”
Organised by Wiltshire Council’s road safety team to encourage more children to scoot, walk or cycle to their local school rather than be going by car, the competition involved 13 other primary schools in Salisbury.
Dick Tonge, cabinet member for highways, said: “This has been a fantastic competition for the children to be involved in and has made them think about the safety aspect of scooting.
“The pod looks great and I’m sure it will be well used.
“The road safety team is also offering scooter skills courses, which are proving to be really popular and successful in schools across the county.”
The storage pod has safe parking for 12 scooters.
