Learning boost at Zouch
CHILDREN in Tidworth volunteered for extra lessons during their half-term break.
Most Year 6 pupils gave up two days of their half-term break to boost their learning with extra literacy and numeracy activities provided by class teacher Sharree Johnson and headteacher Kevin Parker.
They were rewarded for all their hard work with a hockey competition and tasty snacks, and they were allowed to leave their uniform at home and dress in casual clothes.
“I am proud of the commitment shown by our pupils and their parents,” said Mrs Johnson. “The days have been so popular that we have already arranged two more for the Easter break.”
Pupils were challenging themselves and each other to recognise areas of maths that they found particularly difficult and tackle the gaps in their learning to boost their confidence.
The literacy work had a particular focus on grammar and on improving the structure of their sentences.
Mr Parker said: “Children in Year 6 at Zouch are amazing and it does not surprise me at all that so many of them are here and working hard.”
