A BRUTON school student has spent her summer ‘treading the boards’.

Ciara Chapman, 18, secured a place at the National Youth Theatre’s renowned summer workshop in London, fighting for a place against almost 5,000 other students.

Whilst her friends at Bruton School for Girls (BSG) were relaxing over the summer holidays, Ciara was hard at work on the summer acting course.

She said: “The National Youth Theatre was an amazing experience - although I can still feel the effects of nine hours of physical theatre each day! I made lifelong friends and had the time of my life!”

Ciara celebrated yet more success after receiving a fantastic set of A Level results with an A* and two As which have earned her a place reading History at the University of Edinburgh.

Although she always knew that Drama was something she wanted to pursue, Ciara says that attending BSG gave her the chance to try a lot of new things.

She said: “The mix of facilities and creative environment meant that I had the chance to try my hand at technical theatre, directing and script-writing.”

The school are very proud of Ciara’s achievement as the Headmistress of BSG, Nicola Botterill, has conveyed: “Ciara is a fantastic example to our pupils of how to combine academic and creative subjects. We are incredibly proud of all she achieved”

Bruton School for Girls offers Drama Scholarships at ages 13+ and at Sixth Form. To find out more or apply contact the school on or telephone 01749 814400.
