THE Burgate Sixth Form has a reputation for both academic success and supportive pastoral care for students, says headmaster David Pover.

“The combination of an experienced teaching staff and a diverse curriculum, enables our sixth form students to prepare for examinations in a wide range of academic curriculum subjects.

“A level examination performance continues to be strong, with more than two-thirds of our students gaining passes at A*-C grades in 2015 and several achieving a cluster of A and A* grades. This year we also saw continued success in the highly respected Extended Project Qualification with 50 per cent of students achieving A* grades.

“As a result of this success, 95 per cent of our students were able to take up a place at their first choice of university and we saw a rise in the number of students securing places at Russell Group universities, including Oxford.

“Our pastoral system allows students to make the transition securely from Year 11 and supports them throughout their sixth form life. The role of the tutor is key and is invaluable, particularly when supporting our students in preparing for post-18 higher education or employment.

“Opportunities beyond the curriculum are wide and diverse, including work-based placements, community projects and sporting or musical activities.

“In addition, we offer an extensive range of trips and visits, from curriculum trips to London to skiing in Austria and the popular California experience.

“Many students also apply for positions of responsibility on our vibrant Sixth Form Council or serve as Subject Ambassadors, promoting and supporting a specific curriculum area of their choice.

“Our students join us from an ever-growing catchment area, and this is supported by a bespoke range of bus services dedicated to the school and sixth form.

“We look forward to welcoming you to experience the Burgate sixth form for yourself, to see what we offer first-hand.”
