Having beat off stiff nationwide competition, JASHAIR has proven it’s one of the best salons in the UK and will be heading to the Most Wanted Awards Grand Final on Monday 7th September at the National History Museum.

Catherine Handcock Publisher of Creative Head, organisers of the Most Wanted Awards, says: “British hairdressing is widely acknowledged as the best in the world, and Most Wanted celebrates the best of British. To make the finals is an amazing achievement – something that definitely marks you out as an exceptional talent.”

Jayne Prigent, owner of JASHAIR, says: “We’re delighted for everyone in the team to be shortlisted as the best local salon in the UK. It’s a tremendous achievement. We thought it would be fun to celebrate by offering one lucky client free hairdressing for a whole year.”

JASHAIR opened 25 years ago with a single salon in Salisbury. There are now three salons in the group: in Salisbury, Wilton and Parkwood health and fitness club.

JASHAIR in the spotlight

Following the announcement we caught up with Jayne to ask her a few questions.

What do you think has been the secret to your success?

I think we’ve been successful because we care deeply about our clients, our team and the local community. This isn’t just a job; it’s a way of life. That’s why we get involved in community projects, such as co-founding Salisbury Fashion Week and being part of the Salisbury Bid.

We’re always looking for new and fresh ways to raise funds for our chosen local charity - the Stars Appeal - such as the Grand Canyon Trek, which I completed in May. Having jointly instigated this with Martin Starke of SpireFM, we were joined by 19 other local people, and collectively raised more than £64k, with most of the money going to the Breast Cancer Unit Fund.

What are your salons best known for?

50% of what makes a salon fantastic has nothing to do with a pair of scissors. We want to delight our clients every time they walk through our doors. We aim to greet you warmly, treating you like you’re are a treasured friend visiting our home.

We’d like to think we’re best known for our excellence and consistency. These things are important to us, along with our passion, team spirit and community focus. We invest heavily in training our team – we call this ‘the JAS Way’. All our team members receive training in our signature collection of cuts, colours and finishes, and of course our beauty services too. We have our own training academy and send our team to London; to Schwarkopf’s training academy and the fantastic Aveda Institute.

Where does the name JAS come from?

I’m often asked that! It was formed using my initials and those of my two sisters, Andrea and Shelley. We’re a real family business. My two sisters still work in the business today, and I work alongside my husband Neil. We make a great team, although we don’t always agree!
