Hello everyone and welcome to the Journal Gang page. We start this week by saying a great Gang “well done” to Joseph Westlake, who drew this fantastic picture of a ship.

Last year the Journal Gang ran a competition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Buckler’s Hard Maritime Museum near Beaulieu.

Members were asked to draw a ship for a pirate, smuggler or Vice-Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson himself.

The competition was judged by television historian Dan Snow and he chose Joseph’s brilliant picture as the winner.

His prize is the chance to take his whole class from Leehurst Swan school to Buckler’s Hard where they will learn all about the area’s shipbuilding past as the place where the ships for Lord Nelson’s famous Trafalgar fleet were built.

Joseph also won a family year’s pass for Buckler’s Hard and a river cruise along the Beaulieu River.

This week we are finding our how children at one Salisbury school have been learning about how television news programmes are made, and you could win a family ticket to see the fabulous show Bin Men at Salisbury Playhouse.

See you next week,

Jill
