TISBURY'S parish church of St John's will become the setting for a dramatic murder next week as Tisbury Arts Group stage T S Eliot's classic masterpiece, Murder in the Cathedral.
The political drama chronicles the return from exile of Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury to Canterbury Cathedral in the winter of 1170 and his subsequent murder by four knights, probably under King Henry II's orders.
Director Jo Broad has chosen a contemporary angle in exploring the reasons for religious martyrdom. "Our interpretation of the play is controversial and contemporary, examining the effect such events have on everyone, anywhere and for all time."
Murder in the Cathedral is being performed next Friday and Saturday (November 10 and 11) and starts at 7.30pm. Advance tickets are available from Jolly Property Services or SJH Carpets in Tisbury High Street.
