THE new year will be welcomed in spectacular style at Salisbury City Hall on Saturday, January 5.

Now in its 21st year, the New Year Spectacular is packed full of Viennese musical delights, evoking the magic and excitement of 19th century ballrooms.

The renowned London Gala Orchestra with their conductor David McCallum, are joined by star soprano Pamela Hay who is a regular guest on BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night and leading tenor Andrew Wickes, who is presently touring Russia with Russian Early Music, to present a programme of sparkling waltzes, fiery polkas and stunning songs.

This year as well as all the traditional Viennese favourites such as Blue Danube waltz and Radetzky March, the programme includes wonderful waltzes by the French waltz king Waldteufel, composer of the Skaters’ Waltz.

Add pyrotechnics, a champagne lottery and Auld Lang Syne with a traditional piper and you have a programme that should brighten up the darkest of winter days.

New Year Spectacular starts at 7.30pm. Tickets range from £12 to £27.
