FORMER Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo’s magical retelling of the Christmas story, On Angel Wings, was performed at Salisbury Cathedral on Saturday.

Morpurgo and actor Juliet Stevenson performed the tale to a sell-out audience.

The story follows a young boy who is asked to stay behind and mind the flock when the shepherds are invited to follow the star to Bethlehem.

But the Angel Gabriel returns for him and takes him on a magical, memorable flight to be the first to witness the Christmas miracle.

A series of activities coincided with the performance, including an On Angel Wings trail around the cathedral.

Before the show, there was also a drop-in craft workshop in the cloisters where children made angels and saw a living tableau of the Nativity stable.
