AFTER a two-year break, comedian Lucy Porter is back on the road and heading to Salisbury Arts Centre.

Porter, who celebrated 15 years of performing at Edinburgh Festival last year and has appeared on TV’s Have I got News For You, Mock the Week and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, brings her show People Person to Salisbury on February 1.

She said: “People Person is a storytelling show based around a true story of friendship, motherhood, daytime television, Argos and lots of different things.”

And one of Porter’s favourite aspects of the show is her impressions.

“I do a couple of impressions really, really badly and that’s my favourite thing. I do Russell Kane and Dom Littlewood from daytime television, and they are truly awful.

I absolutely love doing them; it makes me laugh every day.”

For Porter, it was important to do a story-based show with an interesting twist at the end.

“I’ve made people laugh and cry but this makes people go ‘Oh’,” she said. “And what is nice about stand up is that you can change the show lots of times; it gets better and better.”

Porter had a two-year break to have two children and she said her family life inspires much of her material.

“It has been really good for me,”

she said. “I feel invigorated and I’ve got different things to talk about. I was gagging to get out there again.”

Although it is the first time Porter has performed in Salisbury, she has been to the city a number of times when visiting family in Romsey.

“For this one I will probably bring the whole family down and stay with my in-laws. For a Londonbased family it’s nice to be in the countryside,” she said.

The feel-good night of comedy aims to appeal to audiences of all ages. Tickets are £12 or £10 and available from salisburyartscentre.
