A SINGER from Downton has made it through to the final of a national music competition.

Anna Baines, 16, pictured, wowed judges in the regional and area heats of Open Mic UK to win a place in the final at the IndigO2 on January 19.

The overall winner will be awarded £5,000 to spend on the development of their music, as well as extensive publicity packages and the opportunity to tour across the UK.

A place in the final will provide acts with the opportunity to impress guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry.

Confirmed on the panel are Radio 1 DJs Annie Nightingale and Ras Kwame as well as representatives from Universal Music, BGM and Kiss FM.

A spokesman for Open Mic UK said: “We are searching for an act that not only has the live ability to impress an audience, industry judges and A&R associates, but an act that has the potential to become a professional recording artist.

“Within the IndigO2 is the best place to showcase your talent in front of a massive crowd and celebrity judges. It’s going to be a huge event and an experience of a lifetime for all our finalists.”
