GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Gretchen Peters is appearing at Salisbury City Hall in March.

The Nashville performer will be including work from her ninth country album, Hello Cruel World.

Reflecting on events both personal and global, the album has received critical acclaim for its poignancy.

“In 2010 the universe threw its best and its worst at me,” said Peters.

“All of it seemed to demand that I redefine my ideas of permanence and re-evaluate what I believe in.

“I wanted to write songs that were brutally honest.”

Peters’ own voice and guitar playing have been at the core of her music since she started performing on the Colorado folk circuit as a teenager.

Inspired by Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and a new generation of songwriters rising out of Nashville, Peters relocated to the Music City in the late 1980s.

Peters’ Independence Day received a Grammy nomination for Best Country Song and a string of popular singers including Neil Diamond and Etta James have performed her songs.

Peters will be on stage at the City Hall on March 11 as part of a nationwide tour.
